The Freedom girls lacrosse team have enjoyed a spring filled with plenty of victories, but now crunch time begins as the East Penn Conference tournament gets underway this week to mark the beginning of the postseason.

Freedom (13-4, 7-3) is the third seed in this week’s tournament and will take on Parkland (11-7, 9-1) Wednesday, May 8, at Northampton at 5:30.

Top-seeded Easton (13-3, 10-0) squares off against fourth-seeded Pleasant Valley (14-4, 7-3) in the other matchup, which is also at Northampton at 7:30 p.m.

EPC finals take place Monday, May 13, at 5 p.m. at Northampton.

In their only contest against Parkland earlier this season, Freedom fell 18-9 to the Trojans. Three of the Pates four losses this year have come against Easton (two) and Parkland, noting that their road to a championship run in the postseason will go through the Rovers or Trojans.

Liberty’s girls finished 8-10 overall and 4-8 in the conference, giving the Hurricanes one of their most successful season’s in their short history, marking their highest win total in a season.

On the boys side, Freedom (7-10) won’t be heading back to the postseason this year after bumping up in competition this season. The Pates finished the season losing five of their last seven games and going 0-8 in their new division with perennial powers Parkland, Central Catholic, Emmaus and Easton.

The Pates played hard till the end, as a 10-9 loss to Parkland, the only undefeated team in the area, last week could have turned their district hopes around, as a win over the Trojans would have pushed them through the postseason.

Liberty (3-12) wrapped up the year with two wins over Bethlehem Catholic (0-13) and Pleasant Valley, as both the Hurricanes and Hawks struggled again to find a footing on the lacrosse scene.

In boys EPC playoff action, (1) Parkland will play (4) Easton on Thursday, May 9, at 7:30 p.m. (2) Central takes on (3) Emmaus at 5:30 p.m. Both games are also at Northampton.

Boys EPC finals take place Monday, May 13, at Northampton at 7:30 p.m., right after the girls finals.
