Landi finds purpose for office space

John Landi, owner of Pie’s On Pizzeria, recently acquired property at 413 Second St.

As part of his original agreement with the borough’s zoning hearing board, he made repairs to the garage, including new doors, exterior paint and refurbishing the entrance. The building is used for long-term storage for his Front Street business and his vintage car collection.

The building also has an office space that was not used.

Landi’s brother Jerry is a counselor. He requested an exception to allow the office attached to the garage to be used as an office for mental health counseling that would include patients with drug and alcohol abuse issues. Jerry Landi explained that most sessions are one on one, although group sessions might include five or six people.

The hours are by appointment, and most sessions are held during the evening.

No modifications are required to the building. The existing layout restricts anyone from entering the storage area from inside the office space. There are bathroom facilities and two other rooms that can be used.

There were questions about the impact on the neighborhood. There is a larger treatment facility within a block of the proposed office.

After reviewing the options, the zoning hearing board approved the request and added conditions to the approval. The Landis are required to have one dedicated parking space for the counseling center. The board wants to see parking spaces lined out in the parking area.
