Upper Macungie awards bids for roads
Resolutions and ordinances took up the major portion of the Upper Macungie Township supervisors’ agenda at their April meeting.
The board adopted an ordinance setting the speed limit at 35 mph along the entire length of Packhouse Road to the Weisenberg Township line.
The second ordinance established a truck prohibition on Bastian Lane while the third amended the rules pertaining to the township’s parks by allowing alcohol to be served at special events.
Eight resolutions then followed with the first being approval of the final land development plan for the new Air Products corporate headquarters.
In other matters, the bituminous seal contract was given to Asphalt Maintenance Solutions for $385,932.38.
The double micro surfacing project was awarded to Asphalt Paving Systems at a cost of $71,512.20. The polymer modified crack seal bid was awarded to Asphalt Maintenance solutions for a bid price of $61,520.00.
All bids relating to the Breinigsville Park West and Independent Park were rejected due to budget constraints.
The 2004 Mack dump truck was sold to the Borough of Coopersburg for $37,000.
Authorization was given to sign an agreement with the Lehigh Valley Community Foundation to receive funds which would be directed to the proposed community center. Authorization was also given to establish a 501c (3) nonprofit to receive the funds for the proposed community center.
Martin Hetrick again requested the township do something about the safety of the children at a certain bus stop.
He referred to the one near the intersection of Krocks Road and Short Hill Lane.
He has contacted the school district, the police department, which apparently also had no success in solving the problem and now is again requesting assistance from the township.
The planning commission reviewed several plans at their March meeting.
Among them were the Grammes lot line adjustment, Air Products and Chemicals new headquarters, Mill Creek development of a proposed hotel, ATAS manufacturing, Route 100 Logistics proposed warehouse and the Shoppes at Trexler Plaza.
Police Chief Edgardo Colón gave the police report for March. He noted there were 842 total calls for service, with 425 traffic citations issued.
There were 21 DUI offenses with 13 disturbing the peace incidents plus many others.
The K-9 Corps was busy. They responded to explosives checks, five stop assists and three narcotics checks.
The motor carrier safety program performed 26 inspections which resulted in 44 violations discovered and seven citations issued.
The driving enforcement program had 47 citations issued and one DUI arrest. The high speed in a 55 mph zone was 97 mph.
The fire report showed 37 emergency responses for Station 8; 34 responses for Station 25 and 34 for Station 56.
Fogelsville Fire Company added eight new members. Station 25 added one and lost four and Station 56 gained two with one member retired or resigned.
