Asbury Church offering addiction seminar on May 4

Asbury United Methodist Church, 1533 Springhouse Road, South Whitehall, is offering an addiction awareness seminar that will explore this disease 9 a.m. to noon May 4 in the sanctuary and adjoining areas. Doors open at 8:30 a.m.

Over the course of three hours, participants will listen to and interact with three-addiction specialists and a panel of specialists.

Speakers include Robert Bedford: “What is Addiction,” William Stauffer: “Addiction Recovery” and Former NFL player Vance Johnson: A Story of Addiction - Living Proof.

The speakers will present their personal and/or professional awareness and understandings of the root cause of addiction, its effects, and pathways to recovery.

In addition to these three speakers, a “Mock Teen Bedroom” organized by the Center for Humanistic Change of Allentown will be available to participants of the seminar.

This adults-only, hands-on opportunity provides a chance to learn how to identify drug paraphernalia; the ways drugs and drug use can be disguised; current local drug trends; the most-up-to-date information on those trends/drugs; ways to talk to children about drugs and alcohol; and how/where to find help.

There is no fee for the seminar but preregistration is requested.

For more information, or to register, contact Bill Arnold, Asbury’s director of congregation care at 610-398-2577 or barnold@asburylv.org.
