ALBURTIS BOROUGH COUNCIL

At the meeting of April 10, Alburtis Borough Council passed a motion adopting Ordinance No. 556 amending section 12-204 for maintenance department employees when they are scheduled to be “on call.”

Maintenance employees are scheduled to be on call when the maintenance department is closed during holidays, weekends, evenings and any other time. The employee on call will be paid $100 for each week they are scheduled on call. If they are called out they will get their hourly wage in addition to the $100, but if they are not called out, they will receive $100.

In other meeting business, borough council approved Security Release No. 2 in the amount of $216,402.50 for the Hills at Lock Ridge West.

Borough Manager Sharon Trexler was authorized by council to apply for a 50/50 grant from Main Street Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce Foundation. Trexler will look into ordering Christmas decorations, flags or banners or whatever is needed in the borough. This is the 12th year the chamber is running this grant program.

PPL Electric Utilities notified the borough free trees will again be provided to fourth grade students, municipalities and environmentally-focused groups. This program started in 2017.

President Ron DeIaco suggested getting dwarf trees or trees that will not grow into electric wires. Councilperson Kathleen Raines suggested trees for the baseball field. Trexler will check into what kind of trees are available.

The borough was notified by the Highway Safety Network in Pottsville they received funds from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation for grants for the Buckle Up PA Project. Council passed a motion approving the borough to apply for a grant to participate with Police Chief Robert Palmer.

A Macungie Ambulance Corps representative reported of the 334 calls they responded to in March, six were in Alburtis.

Lower Macungie Fire Department reported in January the department responded to 57 calls and 51 calls in February and 42 in March, totaling 150 calls in the first quarter of 2019. Fire Chief Dave Nosal notified Alburtis the new fire truck has arrived. It will be housed in Alburtis and the dedication ceremony will be in May.

Following adjournment of the meeting 7:40 p.m., council immediately went into an executive session to discuss personnel with no action to be taken.
