Ronald J. Helmuth, IBM engineer, IT director
Ronald J. Helmuth, 67, of Bethlehem, died, April 14, 2019, while in the care of St. Luke’s Hospice House. Born in Hutchinson, Kansas, he was a son of the late Elvon and Bertha (Yoder) Helmuth.
He was the husband of Ellen “Elena” M. (Horst) Helmuth for 42 years.
He was educated at New College of Sarasota Florida and earned a MBA from Vanderbilt University.
He was a system engineer for IBM. He was the information technology director at Eastern Mennonite University and later for Moravian College. He owned and operated United Check Cashing, Stefko Boulevard, Bethlehem.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Bethlehem.
He was a member of Lehigh Wheelmen Association. He was a past president of both the Morning Star Rotary club of Bethlehem and of the board of Hogar Crea, Freemansburg. He was a member of Blue Mountain Ski Patrol for 15 years and was also the former hill captain. He focused on community development from 1973 to 1975 in Costa Rica.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, Christopher B. of Whitehall, Michael P. and his wife Kelly of Stratford, Conn., Theodore P. Baer of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Jason D. and his wife Michele Axford of Tampa, Fla.; three brothers, Dr. Loren and his wife Mairi Helmuth of LaGrange, Ind.; Gary and his wife Joyce Helmuth and Philip and his wife Elena Helmuth and stepmother, Alice (Van Pelt) Helmuth, all of Sarasota, Fla.; two grandchildren, Noah Helmuth and Eleanor Axford; nieces; and nephews.
