To provide additional space and updated facilities for employees and the public, South Whitehall has adopted a campus master plan which includes two additions to the existing township building at 4444 Walbert Ave.
The oval roadway and landscaped area and the exterior of the structure will remain unchanged.
However, an addition will be erected behind the existing building for administrative personnel on the main floor.
The lower level will provide increased space and improved personal quarters for the police department.
Director of Operations Randy Cope reported the administration section will be secured for township staff.
He said the community development department will move to the new addition, which will have much needed storage capacity for maps, plans and files.
Cope noted the parks and recreation department will be relocated to the area now occupied by community development.
A second new addition primarily for public use will be constructed on the east side of the building.
This will contain the one entrance for all visitors to use on the municipal campus.
The east side addition will have a meeting room for 75-100 people and public restrooms.
“It will be a better user experience for our residents,” Cope said.
He stated a new 3,000- to 4,000-square-foot public works pole building will enable the township to keep expensive equipment under cover.
“We want to keep everything on this campus,” Cope said.
