MACUNGIE BOROUGH COUNCIL
At the April 15 Macungie Borough Council meeting, Macungie police expressed their concern for speeding within the borough – South Chestnut Street was mentioned specifically. It was suggested to add speed boards and increase enforcement in the area.
Lehigh County Emergency Services will hold annual meetings regarding the Lehigh Valley Hazard Mitigation updates. The next meeting will be Aug. 15.
Macungie Volunteer Fire Department was observed holding classes for new recruits. One class included an exercise with water and fire hoses, having the new recruits experience what it’s like to hold the hoses with water flowing.
Streetscape Phase 2 will begin in June and end in November. This phase includes lighting, sidewalks, pavers, planting of trees and sign replacement. A grant in the amount of $750,000 was received and Borough Manager Chris Boehm wants to use this for the Streetscape project.
Easter events include the Easter Bunny visit 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 20 in Flower Park. Egg painting will be held at Macungie Park 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The egg hunt will be held April 21.
Macungie Farmers Market is requesting use of the Macungie Institute during certain events such as the truck show, car shows and any other events occupying the park.
There is a vacancy for a Macungie Institute Trustee. There are three trustees currently and an additional member is needed to replace a trustee who died. Trustees meet once a month. The term of this position will expire March 31, 2020. If interested, send a letter to Boehm to apply.
Macungie Volunteer Fire Department is requesting a donation toward the Macungie Police Department’s Dodge Charger. The car would be used in place of the truck for traveling to various places. It was approved.
Fire police are needed for traffic control for a truck show June 14 and 15.
