Tackett breaks mark as LHS tops Trojans

Watching the boys’ 300 hurdles, Liberty fans called Christian Tackett a beast as he broke the school record in 37.8 in the Hurricane boys’ 108-42 track and field victory over Parkland last Monday at Liberty.

“Coming out the first couple hurdles or so, I felt really good and I know I had to come out here and put up some good numbers to compete with the Parkland team because they’re obviously very good,” Tackett said. “I feel great. It’s definitely motivating me for the post season and proving myself over the rest of this regular season to do the best I can.”

Tackett also won the 110 hurdles in 14.7.

“[This winter] I had a lot more time to work on my technique going over the hurdles and I had my coach, Jesse Patterson, help me a lot too coming into the season. As far as form goes, it definitely helped a lot,” said Tackett. “Hurdles gives you a little more something to do other than just running. You have some obstacles in the way and it tests you athletic ability more.”

In the final event of the day, the 4x4 relay, Liberty and Parkland ran back and forth until the final lap when Ezequiel DeJesus-Colon passed the Trojan anchor around the 100 meter mark.

“I felt like he was behind me, and I didn’t look back even though I felt his presence, and I had to turn on the afterburners,” DeJesus-Colon said. “I didn’t realize I won until my guys told me. I honestly was just in tune with my lane. It was probably my best meet of my career so far, and what a great way to finish the meet.”

Liberty’s Javonte Haynes took first place in the 100 in 10.8, Ryan Wycherley won the 800 in 2:02.5, Darlyn Fermin was first in the 1600 in 4:35.7, and Cole Frank won the 3200 in 9:58.4.

Jaden Freeman placed first in the shot put with a 46-02.00, Trevor Harris won the discus with a 132-00.00, and Gabriel Hontz won the javelin with a 156-05.

“My P.R. happened today. It was my first throw. It felt good to help the team,” said Hontz. “It was good conditions. It’s warmer today. It’s been freezing lately.”

Elijah Rogers placed first in the high jump with a 5-11.00, Alex Roan won the pole vault with a 12-03.00, Haynes was first in the long jump with a 24-10.00, and Sander Sahaydak won the triple jump with a 43-10.00.
