Liberty’s girls’ track and field team edged out Parkland, 76-74, when the Hurricanes’ 4x4 relay team of Rachel Byrne, Camryn Bortz, Yamilet Ferrufino, and Greta Stuckey took first place over the Trojans in the last event of the day.
Byrne was also the winner in the 400 in 1:04.5.
“I was pumped going into this,” Byrne said. “It was a good race. I usually use blocks and today I didn’t because nobody else did, but either way, I get a good start. In any race, with the crowd cheering, and when you think someone’s behind you, you automatically go faster.”
Essynce Botz won the 100 in 12.8 and the 200 in 26.4.
“It’s a tough race,” Botz said. “You have to sprint the whole thing, and you never really know how a team’s going to do until you race them.”
Greta Stuckey took first place in the 800 in 2:30.2 and the 1600 in 5:36.4.
Hazel Deschamps won the 100 hurdles in 16.6, and Ferrufino won the 300 hurdles in 47.8.
Botz also placed first in the long jump with a 17-03.00.
Parkland had all first place finishes in throwing events.
