Church provides Easter meals

In an effort to give back to the community, Revolution Church, 5 Race St., Catasauqua, focused its efforts to support the seniors living at Catasauqua Towers, 534 Third St.

Girlfriends Unlimited, a church-sponsored women’s group, asked parishioners to donate $10 to sponsor a senior. These donations went toward the purchase of food for Easter meals.

“This is part of our blessed week, and it’s all about compassion, unity and service,” said the Rev. Mary McIver, who coordinated the program.

The congregation stepped up, and volunteers were able to put together 75 meals during a packing event April 12. The prepackaged meals included a three-pound boneless ham, two cans of vegetables, stuffing, canned biscuit dough, jelly beans, chips, peaches, peanut butter crackers and juice.

The residents were overwhelmed. Most were not acquainted with the church but vowed to show up for a service. Alice Tiley, a resident in the apartment, asked the residents to sign a thank you card for all the people from Revolution Church. She also assisted in organizing the drive.
