Liberty tops Becahi in track and field

In a meeting of city rivals, Liberty’s track and field teams defeated Bethlehem Catholic’s, 107-43 for the boys, and 114-36 for the girls.

The Hurricane girls scored all points in the 100 when Gabrielle Phillips placed first in 13.3, and in the 200 when Essynce Botz placed first in 27.3.

Maddie Wickel won the 400 for the Hawks in 1:06.0.

Liberty swept the distance events with Belle Weikert taking first in the 800 in 2:38.4, Greta Stuckey winning the 1600 in 5:31.0, and Maddy Drager winning the 3200 in 13:10.0.

The Hurricanes also swept hurdles when Hazel Deschamps won the 100 in 17.2, and Yamilet Ferrufino won the 300 in 48.5.

Botz, Phillips, Alicia Rodriguez, and Caleya Tereska came in first in the 4x1 in 53.5, and Becahi’s team was disqualified.

Camryn Bortz, Ferrufino, Barbara Perevalov, and Olivia Turtzo won the 4x4 relay in 4:27.0.

Weikert, Perevalov, Rachel Byrne, and Katie Henry won the 4x8 relay in 10:43.0.

In jumping events, Liberty’s Megan Bittle was first in the high jump with a 4-09.00, Becahi’s Emma Pfeiffer won the pole vault with a height of 9-06.00, and Liz Lieb, also from Becahi, was first in the long jump with a 16-11.00 and the triple jump with a 34-05.00.

In throwing events, Becahi’s Julia Zambo won the shot put with a distance of 35-04.00, Wickel won the discus with a 102-08, and Liberty’s Brylee Tereska won the javelin with a distance of 82-01.

The Hurricane boys scored multiple points in sprints and distance events.

Devon West won the 100 in 11.2, Javonte Haynes won the 200 in 22.5, Darlyn Fermin placed first in the 800 in 2:06.6, Casey Frank was first in the 1600 in 4:45.0, and Philip Bezas won the 3200 in 11:02.0.

Becahi’s Matt Stianche was the first place winner in the 400 in 54.0.

Christian Tackett won both hurdling events for the Hurricanes: the 110 in 15.2 and the 300 in 39.5.

Daniel Damon, Justin Diaz, Haynes, and West took first in the 4x1 relay in 48.9.

Stianche Marco Calantoni, Josiah Kelly, and Caden Giordano won the 4x4 relay in 3:42.

Fermin, Matthew Johnston, Graham Phillips, and Cole Frank placed first in the 4x8 relay in 8:52.

In jumping events, Stianche won the high jump with a 5-11.00, Liberty’s Alex Roan won the pole vault with a 12-00.00, Haynes was first in the long jump with a 23-04.50, and Liberty’s Sander Sahaydak won the triple jump with a 41-10.00.

In throwing events, Trevor Harris won the shot put with a 48-01.00 and the discus with a 124-06.00, and Becahi’s Jack Donchez won the javelin with a distance of 150-04.00.
