N. Whitehall OKs tax credits for volunteers
During their April 1 meeting, North Whitehall supervisors discussed a proposed ordinance to allow a tax credit for volunteers who help at fire company functions and at Northern Valley Ambulance Corps.
The tax credit would be a way of showing appreciation for their efforts.
After some discussion, and support from some fire company and NOVA members, including Schnecksville Fire Chief Ron Stahley, NOVA Director of Administration Kristi Wilk and Neffs Fire Chief Jim Steward, the ordinance was adopted by the board.
Stahley saw this as a good step for the future of volunteering. The ordinance would allow a 20-percent reduction in the township property tax and an EIT rebate up to $500.
In other matters, two resolutions were discussed by the board. The first covered an exemption to the commercial motor vehicle limits set for driving.
This exemption would be allowed mostly when road crews would be plowing continuously.
The second covered the disposal of obsolete records.
Township Secretary Brenda Norder was authorized to destroy all old records no longer needed by the township.
Doug Olmstead, representing Mary Ann’s Plaza, was present to answer any questions about the proposed issuance of a performance bond instead of a letter of credit to cover the expense of completion of the project.
The board agreed to this request.
New Enterprise was awarded the bid for paving material and aggregate. The paving bid was $237,135. The aggregate bid was $46,955.
Township Manager Jeff Bartlett reported the ball fields are not ready for use yet.
He requested teams using the fields wait for a week or so before scheduling any games.
Boy Scout Chase Wysocky, who is working on his Citizenship in the Community badge, attended the meeting.
Township offices will be closed April 19 for Good Friday.
