Hawks seeking victories

For Bethlehem Catholic’s lacrosse team, the goals are simple: just get a win.

The Hawks are coming off a winless 0-14 season from a year ago and head coach Joe Assise, who enters his second season, understands the position he’s in leading the program.

“Following last season’s record, the boys are hungry for a win,” Assise said. “Seasoned players should help to put the ball in the back of the net against opposing teams for us.”

Assise listed the returning players in the program as Stephen Black, Peter DuBose, Ken Huynh, Ian Kish, Reagan McGill, Jack McIntyre, Aidan Mesure, Nicolas Pepe, Zachary Schmalz, Patrik Sidor, Matthew Sodano, Peter Varghese, Ian Wishard, Luke Wladyslawski and Peter Zmijewski.

New players this season are Clayton Basile, Paul Carreras, Declan Dean, Cian Domican, Austin Druckenmiller, Thomas Fekula, Jackson Gilstrap, Jacob Manhardt, Rece Martin, Kieran Mesure and Nick Paveloze.

With some experience coming back, the Hawks could be in position to be more competitive in contests, but they’ll still endure their share of growing pains with a mix of new players to the sport.

“A majority of players from last year’s team have returned this season,” said Assise. “The team is still fairly young and we have added some players that are not only new to the team but also new to the sport of lacrosse.

“With the addition of assistant coaches to help oversee the program and guide the players this team will be looking to add to the win column this year.”
