Shirley E. Ryan, 78, of Macungie, formerly of Mahanoy City, died March 31, 2019, at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown. She was the wife of the late Paul J. Ryan who died Sept. 12, 2009. Born in Mahanoy City, she was the daughter of the late John D. and Elizabeth M. (Ward) Thomas.

She was a 1959 graduate of Mahanoy City High School and past president of the alumni association and was also a member of the Mahanoy Area Historical Society.

She was a member of St. Paul’s UCC of Mahanoy City and a more than 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star Puritan Chapter #126.

She was employed 38 years with the federal government.

She is survived by a sister, Beth and her husband, Jack Rusin, of Macungie, a nephew, John D. Rusin and his wife Celeste, of Toms River, N.J., a niece, Nicole and her husband, Robert Hausman, of Allentown; great niece, Amanda Rusin; aunts and several cousins.

Contributions may be made in her name to the Mahanoy Area Historical Society or the Endowment Fund of St. Paul’s UCC.

A religious service will be held 12:30 p.m. April 6 at Sky View Memorial Park, Hometown. Arrangements were made by the David D. Jarrett Funeral Home, Mahanoy City.
