Scouts present ideas for park
At the opening of the North Whitehall supervisors meeting, a commendation was read thanking Rick Miller for his 30 years of service to the community by serving on the township recreation board.
The commendation stated Miller’s service to the community was greatly appreciated.
In other matters, members of the Girl Scout Troop 6088 were present to give supervisors an idea of what they propose to do in Kolapechka Park.
Kaitlyn Mericle and Keaira Lutz have plans for the addition of a handicapped ramp, along with the addition of pebble flex safety surfacing.
Also on their list were several new devices for the children.
Lutz also suggested there be a dog park in North Whitehall. She said the dog park should be divided into separate sections for big and small dogs.
Poop bag dispensers, trash cans and watering stations should be established and there should be some trees for shade.
She also suggested to the board that the fence around the pool be recycled. The board voted to move ahead with both proposals.
By agreeing with the proposal, the Scouts can begin fundraising.
The Ridings at Parkland, represented by Attorney Joe Piperato, Richard Krasley and Phil Malitsch, was before the board for preliminary/final approval.
The biggest item discussed was stormwater management.
Supervisors granted two waivers - one on stormwater; the second on the slope in the basin.
Sam Cohen, representing Charles and Katherine Stinner, property owners to the west, noted in the 2007 plan, the large trees were to be preserved. Also, a wall on the property was to be moved.
The developer assured Cohen these items would be addressed.
Supervisors had a discussion on requiring all property owners to obtain reflective house number signs so first responders can find the property in case of an emergency.
Township Solicitor Lisa Young will draft an ordinance to address this situation.
Each of the township’s fire companies has these signs available.
The ordinance will require signs to be installed within nine months following adoption.
