Salem United Church of Christ, 615 Third St., Catasauqua, had a knockout hit with its meatloaf dinner fundraiser March 2. The meal was followed by an ensemble from the Whitehall Chorale.
“If you haven’t heard the choral group, they are outstanding. I’ve been to some of their theater productions, and they are very good,” said Sue Christman, mother of Salem UCC Pastor Michael Smith.
The cooking team stepped up their game, trying to meet all the people wanting meals. Meatloaf in huge aluminum trays seemed to be coming out of the kitchen as fast as guests were walking through the door.
“When we had the salad, soup and sweets event last month, it was in the afternoon. There are a lot more men here today. They like a heartier meal. And we have the choral group right after the dinner,” said Judy Morgan, who coordinates the cooking.
There were take-out meals for those who were not staying at tables to eat. There was a consistent waiting line for the take-out meals. The orders were pretty well split between takeout and dining in.
The church drafted a few helpers from the church’s Girl Scout troop, too.
The successful event is followed by another event, scheduled for 9 a.m.-1 p.m. April 6 - a flea market and basket raffle dubbed Trashy Treasures. The event also includes food and a bake sale.
