Blanche L. Jones
Blanche L. Jones, 94, died peacefully March 20, 2019, at her home. She was the wife of her high school sweetheart, Lloyd Jones. They celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary Aug. 28. She was a resident of Vero Beach, Fla. and Lower Macungie Township. Born and raised in Kingston, she was the daughter of the late George and Elavine Liddicote.
She attended Kingston High School and graduated from Penn State University with a teaching degree. Her first job as a teacher was at Hershey High School.
After their marriage, she and her husband moved to Schenectady, N.Y. for three years and then moved to Emmaus in 1952. They established a Florida residency in the 1990s.
She was an avid golfer and a longtime member of Lehigh Country Club, Allentown and Grand Harbor Golf Club, Vero Beach, Fla. She was especially proud of a hole-in-one she had at both courses.
She enjoyed reading, bridge, needlepoint, playing bocce and watching golf, football and the Final Four tournaments. She especially enjoyed seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren when they visited.
She and her husband traveled extensively and visited all seven continents.
Her past memberships included the Emmaus and Allentown women’s clubs, AAUW, PEO, Emmaus Moravian Church and she was a volunteer at the Lehigh Valley Hospital.
She is survived by her husband; son, Lloyd H. and his wife Andrea, of Emmaus; granddaughter Stephanie and her husband Michael Berdik, of Charlestown, Mass.; grandson, Collin, of Houston, Texas; great-grandchildren, Emma and Will Berdik. She was predeceased by a daughter, Sheryl Jones Alu and a brother, George W. Liddicote.
Gifts in remembrance may be made in support of the Blanche Liddicote Jones Scholarship for Teaching. Gifts should be sent to Penn State University, College of Education, Development Office, 247 Chambers Building, University Park, Pa. 16802 and noted for the “Blanche Liddicote Jones Scholarship.”
At her request, there will be no calling hours and services are private. Arrangements were made by the J.S. Burkholder Funeral Home, Allentown.
