Alfred (Al) F. Sancho, 91, of Macungie, died at home where he resided for over the past five years. He previously lived in Cape Cod, Mass. and South Windsor, Conn. He was the husband of the late Joyce A. (Healy) Sancho who died Feb. 23, 2019. He was the son of the late Francis and Isaura (Vasquez) Sancho.
After returning from enlistment in the Korean War, he met his future wife at a camp where he was a counselor and she was visiting her mom who worked there.
Upon completing his undergraduate and graduate degrees, he worked throughout his life in education, first, as a history teacher in East Hartford, Conn. and then as an elementary school principal and board of education administrator for East Windsor, Conn. Upon retiring, he worked for the Salvation Army as the director of counseling services, Hartford, Conn. and then as a security officer for an independent/assisted living facility on Cape Cod.
He is survived by a daughter, Gail and her husband Alan Carlson, of Macungie; son, Scott and his wife Diane, of South Carolina and daughter, Linda and her husband Ronald Keenan, of Nevada; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Edward, who died as a toddler in 1934.
He was caring, fun and appreciative of all his family. Following both parents’ wishes, a memorial service is being planned in September on Cape Cod which held special memories for them.
