Richard D. Ackerman, 81, of Northampton, died March 19, 2019, at VNA Hospice House at St. Luke’s, Bethlehem. Born in Weaversville, he was a son of the late Roy H. Ackerman and the late Myrtle P. (Yong) Ackerman. He was the husband of Judith A.(Amadore) Ackerman for 41 years.
He was a 1954 graduate of Liberty High School, Bethlehem. He earned a technical degree from the GM Institute of Technology of Michigan in 1958.
He was, for eight years, a sergeant and a1st Gunner in Battery C Gun Battalion in the Pennsylvania National Guard.
He owned of Ackerman Advertising, Northampton, for the past 30 years. He and his wife Judy co-owned and operated Ackerman’s Corner, Northampton, from 1975-2001.
He attended St. John’s U.C.C. Church, Weaversville.
He was a Northampton Borough councilman for more than 20 years, a member of the zoning board and chairman of the Civil Service Committee. He was a member of the Allentown Armory and the 12 Apostles. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Porter Lodge #284, Catasauqua.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Charlotte A. and her husband Archie Campbell of York; a son, Richard F. and his wife Kelly of Northampton; a step-son, Clyde W. and his wife Joan Seigle of Bedminster, N.J.; a sister, Patricia Brennan and her fiancée Thomas Sands of Bethlehem; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
