John Robert Novack, 86, of Bethlehem, died March 16, 2019. He was the son of the late John and Elizabeth (Chato) Novack. He was the husband of Sally (Heist) Novack for 62 years.
He was a U.S. Navy submarine sailor and deep sea diver during the Korean War. He used the G.I. Bill to earn a pilot’s license and then flew search and rescue for Civil Air Patrol.
He was a foreman in the Bethlehem Steel Corp. beam yard for 30 years until he retired.
He was a former president of the Golden Eagles and Cardinal 30014 flying clubs and of the senior league at Bar-Don Lanes, Easton. He played the accordion in a four-piece band.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, John Harold; a sister, Beatrice Gombocz; and a grandson, John Henry Novack.
He was predeceased by his young children, Holly Lee and David Alan; and a brother, Joseph.
