Mexican grill to open

Habaneros Mexican Grill, LLC is planning to open at 3104 Hamilton Blvd. across from the historic King George Inn at a site formerly occupied by Cali Burrito.

At their March 6 meeting, South Whitehall commissioners approved the intermunicipal transfer of a liquor license from P.T. Mohan, Inc., 221 W. Broad St., Bethlehem, to the proposed Habaneros Mexican Grill, in Dorneyville.

Speaking on behalf of the Habaneros Mexican Grill, Sean Ganey said the restaurant will seat up to 80 diners, will have approximately 10 employees, and will be open 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday-Sunday.

Ganey said the restaurant management is ready to open the business as soon as the liquor license is finalized.

The transfer process with the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board takes 8-12 weeks after receiving municipality approval.

In other business, commissioners accepted transfer of the water booster station for $1 from Jaindl Land Co., at 3947 Walbert Ave.

Jerry Charvala, assistant public works manager, said the water booster station was part of the development agreement for the Hills at Winchester.

“We didn’t have the pressure,” Charvala said. “In this case, it was the developer’s responsibility.”

He said the staff has been running the station for several months and everything is working well.

Charvala noted the water station will connect with Winchester West and the township administration building.

Howard Kutzler of Jaindl Land Co. commented on the transfer.

“This is a million dollar-plus improvement to South Whitehall Township,” Kutzler said.
