EMMAUS BOROUGH COUNCIL
Two firefighters from the Emmaus Fire Department were honored for retirement and promotion at the Emmaus Borough Council meeting March 4.
Firefighter Clifford Foulke decided to retire in January after serving the Emmaus Fire Department for 24 years.
Chief John Price spoke highly of Foulke, and stated Foulke was one of the people who quickly accepted Price when he transitioned into the department two years ago and was someone Price always relied upon.
“He stepped up and he started taking care of some of the fire truck maintenance issues I was having and was very instrumental in helping me transition into this organization,” Price said.
Foulke was presented with a plaque thanking him for over two decades of service. The plaque contained the helmet shield from Foulke’s actual helmet.
In related business, Donald Riley III was sworn in to the rank of fire lieutenant. Riley has been with the department for 11 years.
Council voted to approve the purchase of a recycling receptacle at Triangle Park. Councilman Jeff Shubzda said they felt a recycling receptacle was needed with the new addition of the farmers market being held at the park Sundays. They will purchase one for now and hope for the possibility of being able to make a deal and purchase two for the price of one.
It was also noted that e-waste recycling will be reopened for the first time this year March 11. The dumpster is located beside the public works department garage on Klines Lane and will be open noon to 6 p.m. on the second Monday of the month until December.
