Board OKs extension for Hotel Hamilton plans

The Hotel Hamilton development proposed for a 5.3-acre site along Hamilton Boulevard, with plans dating back to 2015, received another 12-month time extension from South Whitehall commissioners.

Construction of a hotel and two other commercial buildings, possibly a bank and pharmacy, at the northeast corner of the Cedar Crest/Hamilton Boulevard intersection in Dorneyville had been proposed by developer Atul Patel.

He also agreed to preserve the historic King George Inn on the site.

The main holdup for the project has been the need for a stormwater pipe easement over a small section of the adjacent shopping center property.

The shopping center changed ownership during the time period, and the two parties were not able to work out a deal for the pipe easement.

Last year, commissioners became distressed over the appearance of the property with the inn looking increasingly rundown and neglected.

South Whitehall Director of Community Development George Kinney commented on the matter.

“The commissioners said we want to start seeing some progress,” Kinney said. “They might take a look at removing the two newer additions at the King George Inn.”

Patel was directed to report back to commissioners in six months and return with a complete final plan application by Feb. 3, 2020.

In a different matter, commissioners granted approval to Recreation Program Manager Page Durflinger to purchase of an inflatable movie screen with a projection and speaker system.

The items will be used for the Movies in the Park series and other events that come along.

The screen package will be obtained from Epic Outdoor at a cost of $12,399.

A free-standing base, air blower, microphone, tie downs and stakes, cables and three-year warranty are included in the price.

Commissioners also approved $2,390 for a 5-foot by 8-foot enclosed trailer to store and transport the screen and related equipment.
