Police investigate homicide at Upper Macungie warehouse

Upper Macungie Township police, the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office and Lehigh County Homicide Task Force are investigating the homicide of a 44-year-old Allentown man which occurred 11 p.m. Feb. 24 at Customized Distribution Services Inc., 8400 Industrial Blvd., Upper Macungie.

According to Lehigh County Coroner Scott Grim, Nester Ortiz Deleon was pronounced dead 11:53 p.m. that day at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.

An autopsy was performed Feb. 26 and the cause of death is attributed to a gunshot wound to the body.

The manner of Deleon’s death was ruled a homicide, Grim said.

Upper Macungie Police Chief Edgardo Colón issued the following statement on Feb. 26:

“The Upper Macungie Township Police Department is currently conducting a criminal investigation into an incident that resulted in the death of an employee of CDS Inc., 400 Industrial Blvd., Breinigsville.

This incident, which occurred late Sunday night, Feb. 24, has been ruled a homicide by the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office.

“Currently, detectives from our Criminal Investigations Division, along with detectives from the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office, are hard at work investigating this incident.

“As an agency, we feel it is important that those who live and work in Upper Macungie feel safe and secure.

“At this time, we have no reason to believe there is an ongoing risk or threat to the community, however, if that situation would change, we will notify residents via Nixle and social media immediately.
