Coplay police investigate home invasion

Coplay police responded to a burglary Feb. 23 on South Third Street in the borough after a call that two masked, armed men entered a home and took cellphones, wallets and a game system.

According to police, officers responded just after 8 p.m. to a report of a home invasion robbery in the unit block of South Third Street. Police Chief Vincent Genovese said the victims reported two black males armed with handguns and wearing masks entered a playroom of the home and robbed nine individuals of their cellphones and wallets as well as stole a PlayStation 4 game system.

“All the victims in the case were juveniles, and we are interviewing each of them again,” Genovese said.

He said this was a targeted incident and not random in nature.

“The community is not in danger,” Genovese said.

One of the males was described as 5 feet, 7 inches tall and wearing a white hoodie, blue jeans, sneakers and red mask. He was reportedly armed with a handgun.

The other male was described as 6 feet, 1 inch, 170 pounds and wearing a purple mask, blue jeans and Curry basketball sneakers.

According to Genovese, it is unknown if the men fled the scene on foot or via a vehicle. He said no one was injured during the incident.

Neighbors said they were alarmed when an early report shared details of two men armed with a rifle in the borough. They said they expected a boroughwide alert to be made.

Genovese said police are continuing the investigation and asked those who may have observed anyone fitting either description to contact the Coplay Police Department at 610-262-2288.
