Artist-in-residence works with Weisenberg students

Gabrielle Kanter, who earned her Bachelor’s of Fine Art degree from the University of the Arts and a Master’s of Fine Art degree from Cranbrook Academy of Art visited Weisenberg Elementary School in January to work with the students.

Weisenberg art teacher Karly Sacco said in an email to The Press, Kanter has worked professionally as an artist and art educator for the past 15 years.

“She has been featured in national publications, and has been exhibited extensively in invitational exhibitions at galleries, museums, and public facilities both locally and throughout the country,” Sacco stated.

Sacco said during Kanter’s residency at the school, she worked with third-, fourth- and fifth-graders on fabric quilt squares she will sew together to make a fabric quilt that tells the story o the students interests, hobbies and life.

The story quilt will be installed and displayed permanently in the Weisenberg Elementary lobby in spring 2019.

Gabrielle’s residency was fun, informative and enjoyable, Sacco said. “Weisenberg students can’t wait to see their story on display.”
