Since she was very young, Julia Lacey knew she was destined to play basketball. Basketball is a common thread in the Lacey family.

Her father, Jim, played at the University of Tulsa, and he three older sisters were standouts in the Roughies’ program.

So, it was easy for the youngest sister of the family to follow in their footsteps, and she was among five seniors that were honored during the Roughies’ Senior Night ceremonyheld recently. Lacey scored 10 points in the victory over Notre Dame of East Stroudsburg.

“I really do enjoy playing and wish I could play more,” said the effervescent Lacey. “Basketball always has been a big thing in our family.

“I started playing when I was very young with the CYAA, my dad always coached me. I loved it and I knew I would keep playing as long as a I could.”

Despite their record, Lacey and the four other seniors have cherished their final season in the Brown and White under first-year head coach Mark Seremula.

“It has been a really positive environment,” said Lacey. “We all really enjoyed going to practice. We have played better, but we just haven’t had enough wins.

“I also have enjoyed working with the younger players and helped make them better players.”

Along with basketball, the upbeat Lacey has also been involved in cheerleading and dance, the latter competitively for the past seven years and 13 overall involved in the sport.

“I decided to get involved in cheering last year and it has been fun,” she said. “I compete at times (dance) and I have danced the year around. Like basketball, it is a lot of fun.”

In addition, Lacey is involved with the school’s student council as well as other activities. She plans to attend Lehigh County Community College (LCCC) next fall and begin to search for a prospective career.

Yet, she won’t soon forget his days with her teammates, nor the pregame talks.

“I was very excited to play during my senior year,” said Lacey. “But it has hit me hard that this is coming to an end.

“We really has some crazy pep talks. I have so many fond memories, and basketball certainly has been fun.”
