Janet M. Forse, 90, formerly of Macungie, died Jan. 30, 2019, at Luther Crest, Allentown, where she resided. She was the wife of the late H. Gassaway Brown and Edgar H. Leander. Born in Binghamton, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Walter C. and Helen M. (Brigham) Forse.
She had a Bachelor of Arts degree from Upsala College and a master’s degree in social work from Temple University. She worked as a therapist and social worker in Denver, Colo., Lehigh County and Warren County.
She was very active in the women’s movement, having served as past president of N.O.W. of Pennsylvania. She also worked on the suicide hotline for Lehigh County and for the former State Hospital of Lehigh County.
She was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of the Lehigh Valley, Bethlehem.
She is survived by children: Susan Leander and her husband I. Jay Freedman, of Dresher; Allison Leander-Kucsan and her husband Gary Kucsan, of Fogelsville; Jeffrey Leander and his wife Sheryl, of Raleigh, N.C.; a stepdaughter; four stepsons; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Contributions may be made to the church.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Feb. 16 at the Unitarian Universalist Church of the Lehigh Valley, 424 Center St., Bethlehem. Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Feb. 16 in the church. Arrangements were made by the Keller Funeral Homes, Inc., Fogelsville.
