LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

EASTERN SALISBURY COLUMN

Groundhog Day has come and gone and the crazy groundhog Phil didn’t see his shadow. Personally I’m hoping for an early spring, but we definitely don’t need the rain that typically comes with it. But after last week, I’m over snow days and eagerly awaiting warmer temperatures.

Harry S Truman Elementary School will hold the annual first grade celebration of the 100th day of school Feb. 7. The parade will begin 9:30 a.m. for the students to show off their fashions.

HST will hold their Valentine’s Day festivities Feb. 14. Please look for information to be sent home with your students regarding what their classroom will be doing to celebrate the holiday. Remember to reference the acceptable food items should your child’s room be having refreshments on this date.

All Salisbury Township schools will now be open for a full day of school as a snow make-up day Feb. 15. All township schools will be closed Feb. 18 in honor of the President’s Day holiday.

There will be a curriculum and technology meeting at HST 7 p.m. Feb. 20.

HST will hold kindergarten registration Feb. 21. There will be two sessions available this day – 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Each session will last about 90 minutes and no appointment is necessary. If possible, you are asked to bring your child with you as several screenings will take place that day. You are also requested to bring several items with you to complete registration: the child’s original birth certificate, current immunization records and two current proofs of residency.

Acceptable proofs are current driver’s license or registration, current utility bill, current bank statement, current W2 or W4 form, current lease or sales contract for permanent residence, current tax documents showing address, current pay stub with address of employer and employee, or current medical, state or federal benefits document showing address.

We can’t wait to meet the next class of students at HST.

Feb. 22 is the mid-marking period for the third quarter for the elementary schools. This year is again flying by.

Feb. 22 will again be an early dismissal for only HST and Western Salisbury Elementary School, both dismissing 1 p.m. for professional development for staff.

A Football Officiating 101 course is being held by the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association, Inc. at Parkland High School 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. March 28 through May 16. The goal of this course is to prepare attendees to take and pass the PIAA Football Officiating Exam.

There is a growing need for officials at all levels. Find out how to have fun and get paid for being on the field. No experience is needed; however, you must be 18 years of age. This course is open to both men and women. There is no fee to take the course; however, the PIAA charges a fee to register for and take the exam. For more information, contact Harry Birkhimer at 610-393-1621 or via email at hcbnirk@rcn.com.

Salisbury High School will hold a blood drive 12:30 to 7 p.m. Feb. 27 in the gymnasium. Those who complete a successful donation will receive a free T-shirt.

To donate you need to be at least 16 years old, bring a photo ID, and drink plenty of water and have a healthy meal prior to donating. See Olivia Hoeing or Melinda Rivera in SHS or visit GIVEaPINT.org to schedule your appointment.
