The Salisbury swim team has two regular season meets remaining on its schedule before the postseason gets underway. The District 11 Class 2A Swimming Championships are scheduled for March 1-2 at Parkland High School.

But for now, the Falcons are perfecting their strokes in hopes of making lengthy and rewarding postseason meets. As a team the records might not jump off the page-the boys are 0-8, while the girls are currently 2-6-but plenty of individuals have the opportunity to find themselves on the medal stand in the upcoming weeks.

“We have a trio of seniors-Sarah Bobeck (any distance freestyle or butterfly), Maddy Jewell (freestyle and backstroke) and Cathryn Fitzsimmons (freestyle, backstroke and butterfly)-who have been leading the way, along with sophomores Julia Graver (individual medley, breaststroke and freestyle), Kerry Seiler (sprint free) and Eliza Wiener (all around),” head coach Patrick O’Connor said. “We have a freshman in Krista Bonge, sister to former great Daniel Bonge, who is stepping up in freestyle and breaststroke.”

In Salisbury’s latest meet, against Saucon Valley, the Lady Falcons nearly picked up the victory in a 91-79 defeat to the Panthers. But plenty of individuals displayed solid end-of-the-year times.

Bobeck won the 100-yard freestyle in 56.32, over 12 seconds faster than the next finisher. She also took the 200-yard freestyle in convincing fashion at 2:04.58.

Two other Lady Falcons touched the wall first in their individual events. Graver swam the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:18.92 and the 200-yard IM in 2:30.28, while Kerry Seiler touched the wall first in 27.87 in the 50-yard freestyle.

The duo of Bobeck and Graver also swam legs in two relay teams that both finished in first place. Cathryn Fitzsimmons also was in both of them, while Seiler helped the 200-yard freestyle relay come in first and Eliza Wiener was the fourth swimming in the 200-yard medley relay team that won.

“While our record isn’t very competitive, I feel like our girls can make a splash at districts, hopefully coming in the top three as a team,” O’Connor said. “Sarah has a great chance to go to states and the combination of her, Maddy, Julia, Kerry and Cathryn are looking to qualify for states in the relays.”

As for the boys’ side, O’Connor believes Baxter Reihman has a chance to make a name for himself at districts as well.

“On the boys’ side we have only four swimmers, but Baxter has started to come on late in the season, posting some personal bests in the sprint freestyle and fly events,” O’Connor said. “Baxter is still a year away, but I feel he will surprise at districts.”

Shane Artis was the lone Falcon boy to win an event in Salisbury’s 120-19 loss to Saucon Valley. He swam the 200-yard freestyle in 2:15.44.

Results from Tuesday’s meet at Stroudsburg were not available at time of press. Salisbury next travels to East Stroudsburg North on Thursday.
