In honor of Read Across America, Sheckler Elementary School will be participating in a readathon for the month of February. Students are encouraged to read or be read to for at least 15 minutes each day - but you can always read more if you would like to. All types of reading count: books, magazines, comics and e-books are some examples.
Calendars were sent home with students to record the number of minutes read per day for the entire month. At the end of the month, parents are asked to add up the minutes their child read and return the signed calendar to school by March 1.
The classroom that reads the most minutes in each grade level will receive an ice cream party. The student must have participated in the readathon in order to receive the treat.
Also, each grade level will have a special picture taken of all the students who participated, and it will be put in the Sheckler Elementary yearbook, which can be purchased at the end of the school year.
