William A. Tyrka

William A. Tyrka, 82, of Macungie, died Jan. 10, 2019, at home. He was the husband of Carol A. (Bender) Tyrka for 25 years. Born in Jersey City, N.J., he was a son of the late William and Anna (Faber) Tyrka.

He was a self-employed roofing contractor in the Lehigh Valley for many years. Prior to that he was in roofing sales.

He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Orefield, where he was the custodian for the last five years prior to his illness.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife; daughters, Karen Axt and Susan Klingman, both of Northampton, Maryanne and her husband Michael Majercak, of Whitehall; sons, Kurt Axt and his wife Kathy, of Roanoke, Va., Steven Axt and his wife Kelly, of Acworth, Ga., Michael Axt and his wife Sandra, of New Tripoli and William Jr., of Leesport; stepdaughters, Carla Moyer and her husband Patrick, of Concord, N.C., Cheryl Rishcoff and her husband Michael, of Allentown; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers and one sister.

Contributions may be made to the St. Joseph the Worker Church Angel Fund.

A memorial Mass will be held 11 a.m. Jan. 18 at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 1879 Applewood Drive, Orefield, 18069. Visitation will be at the church 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Keller Funeral Homes, Inc., Fogelsville.
