WCSD board is shown special appreciation

At the Whitehall-Coplay School Board meeting Jan. 14, board members were thanked for their dedication and support in recognition of School Board Appreciation Month.

“Our board members are very visible in our district, supporting our students in the academics, arts and athletic arenas,” Dr. Lori Hackett, Whitehall-Coplay School District superintendent, said. “They devote significant time attending committee meetings, board meetings and serving and supporting district- and building-level initiatives. They are in our schools serving as volunteers and attending concerts, plays, open houses, athletic events and student recognitions. Through their actions, it is evident that our board members are dedicated to serving our students and community by ensuring the education of our students is first and foremost in their minds when making decisions for the district.”

Hackett also thanked the congregation of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Fullerton, the Rev. Dr. Becky Beckwith and the Girl Scout troop for donations of scarves, hats and gloves for school district families; Lafarge for the donation of 20 holiday food baskets for district families; and the Whitehall Lions Club for the donation of coats, clothing, hats and mittens for the students.

Terri Miller, Zephyr Elementary School principal, showed a video presentation to the board, displaying the many activities students have participated in since the beginning of the school year. Special events, such as Pedaling for Pink, which raised awareness for breast cancer; the Color Splash Fund Run; McZephyr Night; and Girls on the Run, were just a few examples showcased in the presentation.
