Jacob Hausman earns Eagle rank
Jacob Hausman achieved the rank of Eagle Scout Dec. 15, 2018, at an Eagle Scout Court of Honor ceremony, held at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Fullerton.
Hausman graduated from Whitehall High School in 2018 and is currently attending Kutztown University, where he is majoring in elementary education (pre-K through 4).
He earned 31 badges during his Scouting career, which began when he was 7 years old. He is a member of Troop 59, sponsored by Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Egypt. Hausman held several troop positions over the years, including senior patrol leader and assistant patrol leader.
To earn the pin, Hausman designed and constructed two safe, handicapped-accessible viewing areas for visitors in wheelchairs at the baseball fields at Hokendauqua Park and Playground. With the help of his fellow Scouts and friends of the park, Hausman poured two 10-foot-by-5-foot concrete pads. Each includes a bench set in concrete and has a crushed stone and cinder path leading to a nearby bridge.
“The viewing areas are protected by a 6-foot-high chain link fence and identified with handicap placards,” Hausman said.
The entire project is in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act guidelines.
At the ceremony, Hausman presented the Eagle pins to his mother, Linda Hausman; his father, Andy Hausman; and his grandparents, Mabel and Donald Hausman and Cheryl Hausman.
State Rep. Jeanne McNeill, D-133rd, presented him with a citation of outstanding achievement as an Eagle Scout, and Pastor Martha Sipe gave the convocation. Eagle Scout Donald Hausman was the master of ceremonies. Jaron Crosson and Alex Hill served as the Color Guard, and Eagle Scouts Eric and Evan Bond served as the Honor Guard. Ryan Hausman performed the lighting of the Eagle Trail, and Eagle Scouts Daniel Busch, Jeffrey Miller and Tracy Tacker addressed the qualifications for Eagle Scout.
In addition to Scouting, Hausman was involved in volunteering at a local food bank and was a member of the Whitehall High School Marching Zephyr Band.
