Allanah George, girls see changes for better this year
In her last season, Allanah George is enjoying the moments.
With a full slate of athletics, academics, and commitments, George makes the most of them.
“I think we are all enjoying this year than the previous ones,” said George, a senior. “The practices are very competitive and it has been a good year in many ways.
“A lot has changed with the program for the better.”
George, who is one of five seniors on the team, hasn’t placed all of the emphasis on winning games, as the Roughies entered the holiday break with an overall 1-6 mark.
She is part of a senior group that helped the girls’ soccer program get to a district playoff. George, Amy Huber and Taylor Richards helped lead the team as well as other players who are playing in the winter.
“Taylor and I have played basketball together before,” said George. “We all have played better lately,” said George. “We have a lot of young girls and everyone is working hard. We expect to improve and have a better second half.”
Head coach Mark Seremula recognizes and appreciates George’s efforts.
“Lani is such a hard worker and she’s played all five positions in her four years,” he said. “She never complains and will do whatever is needed to help the team.
“She plays multiple sports, works, and takes care of her school work. It is a good work ethic that will help her in the future.”
George started playing basketball in fourth grade, but she began her soccer career at the age of four.
“If I had to choose between the two, it would be soccer,” said George. “I have played it a long time and it is special. I enjoy basketball and I have worked hard on it over the few years.”
Her father, Chris, has been her steady force in her athletic career. She also thanked the support of her mother Kristen, and her stepfather, Kyle.
“My dad, stepdad and mother also have had a big influence in everything I do,” she said. “They always have been there for me.”
Along with basketball and soccer, George was a cheerleader for the football team in the fall and has been involved with Varsity C, Brown and White, Peer Mentor, Student Council, and the secretary of the Senior Class.
George plans to attend Penn State and pursue a degree in Supply Chain, a field that has caught her attention since her sophomore year. When she isn’t playing sports, George works at a part-time job, which she enjoys.
It’s safe to say she likes to keep busy.
“I really enjoy working,” said George. “It gets me away from sports. I like to keep active with a number of things.”
Through it all, George appears to be enjoying every moment.
