Celebrity camel visits Bethlehem

Bethlehem Police Mounted Patrol hosted a special guest appearance by celebrity “snow camel” Einstein on Dec. 22, 2018, and an estimated 500 to 1,000 people attended to have their photos taken with the famed dromedary.

The people also came to visit Quadrant Private Wealth Stable facility that mounted patrol horses - Grey, Asa, Pharaoh and George - call home.

As the song “Einstein the Snow Camel” played in the background throughout the afternoon, a continuous line of Einstein’s fans waited patiently to have photos snapped with the snow camel who sprang to fame after being spotted standing along Route 309 during a sudden November 2018 snowstorm.

His owners, Peaceable Kingdom Petting Zoo, Bedminster, Bucks County, took him out of his travel trailer for safety purposes as they tried to navigate a hill during the storm.

Einstein was also the recipient of several honors, including a proclamation from Bethlehem Mayor Bob Donchez, a certificate of bravery for his snowstorm exploits from the mounted patrol, and a citation making him an honorary member of the Bethlehem Police Mounted Patrol.

Local rock ’n’ roll band “Smoke and Mirrors” wrote the signature song for Einstein.

For a donation, those attending could have an individual or family photo snapped with a very cooperative Einstein, who seemed to enjoy all of the attention.

Peaceable Kingdom Petting Zoo, which needs a new towing vehicle to bring Einstein and the petting zoo to audiences, has set up a GoFundMe page.

Mounted patrol member George spots his first camel ever as his partner Officer Albert Strydesky reassures him.
