WESTERN SALISBURY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Parents and guardians filed into Western Salisbury Elementary School Feb. 19 to register the Class of 2032 for the first day of kindergarten.

The registration program is one of three events designed to get young students ready for school for the coming academic year. Another registration opportunity will be offered in May. In August, soon-to-be WSE kindergarten students will visit the school to meet their teachers and classmates and visit their classrooms, WSE Principal Grace Hartman explained in a brief presentation to parents.

Students also may receive a welcome letter or call from their teachers.

Parents and guardians also had opportunities to meet with the school nurse, a representative from the WSE PTA, a reading specialist and a school guidance counselor as well as tour the school building and visit the school library and a few classrooms during the registration event.

The kindergarten curriculum, extracurricular options such as clubs, school security and upcoming activities including field trips and school parties also were discussed along with lunch and school arrival and pickup procedures. Hartman also led a tour of the playground.

WSE offers full-day kindergarten.

“Every child is capable,” Hartman said.
