Lehigh County executive Phillips Armstrong visited Heidelberg Township’s May 16 supervisors’ meeting.

Armstrong said he tried to visit sooner but snow forced him to turn around.

He reported an addition to Cedarbrook Senior Care and Rehabilitation, South Whitehall, should be started by fall.

His chief interest, however, was making sure everyone completes the census forms since in the last census, the count for the county was low.

Money coming to the county is tied to how many people are counted.

Over a 10-year period the number of uncounted residents could add up to $2,000 for each that is lost to the county.

He explained the census can be filled in on line, by phone or by mail.

The information is confidential and affects money for the school district, township and county.

In other matters, supervisors held an executive session concerning pending litigation.

Goodwill Fire Company, Germansville, has responded to 28 calls so far for the year.

The building addition is moving forward. Some windows had to be sealed off.

Firefighter Bill Shellhammer reported three members completed the firefighter 1 course. The class costs $118 and is held Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sunday.

The fire company is deciding if the new bay is to be drive in or back in.

Roadmaster Kevin Huber reported Memorial Drive is being prepared for paving. Dirt roads are being stoned and gutters cleaned. Sweeping is finished. State Sen. Pat Browne has a new liaison person - Vince O’Domeski. The board can contact him with any concerns.

Dawn Didra and Township Manager Janice Meyers attended a meeting about updating the comprehensive plan. The township received a grant of $49,000 for the updating. The plan is expected to be adopted in September 2020.

Meyers asked if each township wants its own solicitor to study the proposed plan or if one can study it for all six municipalities involved. Heidelberg said one solicitor was sufficient.

Didra reported the porch in Heidelberg Heights that fell partially on the road has been cleared up. Unlicensed cars have been taken off the roads.

They went to a Lehigh Valley Greenways meeting and received information about open space, recreation and watersheds.

There will be a program in July about flood insurance. The flood plain has to be mapped to be eligible for flood insurance.

Engineer Ryan Christman said more on-lot information is included in the sewer ordinance which was passed.

Diane Huber reported Northern Valley Ambulance has hired more people who are in training.

“All things seem to be going well,” she said.

Donald Christ, as a member of the pool committee, asked for a verbal letter of support for the Northwestern Community Pool.

Lynn is applying for a grant to prepare a feasibility study which will explore the desire and need for a pool.

Weisenberg Township has said it would support the grant application.

Weisenberg requested support for a grant application for its hiking-biking trail. Several sections are finished but it wants to connect all the parts.

A letter was received in North Whitehall about the use of Roundup. Meyers said the township has no jurisdiction, but Fink said the township does have some purview in the matter.

Earl Zellner owns both sides of a short connecting road between Reservoir and Church roads.

PPL wants to erect poles. He thinks they would be put close enough to the fields that farm equipment might hit them.

He asked if the township could close the road which had been discussed previously.

Supervisor David Fink said that would take a couple months.

Huber said he has not received any call for a design to put in posts and asked why the wires cannot go underground.

If electric goes out in the area, this new area could be tapped to restore electricity.

Fink said they would begin the process of closure.
