Catasauqua head girls’ basketball coach Mark Seremula sees one of this team’s issues simply explained – put the ball in the basket.

With a 50-35 defeat to Pen Argyl Monday night, the Roughies (1-5) dropped their fourth consecutive game, all of them being Colonial League contests.

After losing to host Tamaqua in their tournament, Catty beat Lincoln Leadership, 44-25 in the consolation game.

Since then, they had lost league games to Bangor, Salisbury, and Palmerton.

“We have been competitive, but we just can’t score enough points,” said Roughies’ first-year head coach Mark Seremula. “We were down 15-10 to Palmerton and we missed some foul shots and jumpers.

“We were right with Bangor at 12-8, and we started missing shots. The girls are working extremely hard and there is no quit in them.”

Sophomore point guard Lexie Rushatz had a career-high 20 points, and she has paced her team through the first six games.

“I have been very impressed with Lexie,” added Seremula. “She has gotten stronger with the ball and more confident.”

Monday’s game was the third in four days for the Roughies. They had a breather over the next few days as they will travel to Southern Lehigh Friday night.

“They’re dead tired,” said Seremula about his club. “It has been hard on them, but they have adjusted. We needed a few days and we can regroup.”

Allanah George is one of five seniors who have played together for a while. She is confident the Roughies can reverse their early fate.

“It is definitely different this year with the new coaches,” said George. “The attitude and approach in practices and games has been better and it has helped.

“We have a lot of young girls who are getting a feel for things. They are picking up on things quickly, and we can see the team getting better down the stretch.”

Seremula likes the influx of younger players into the lineup, and is confident a win in the near future can be a panacea for their woes.

“We are playing a lot of younger girls who are learning,” said Seremula. “They have greatly improved from the summer and have confidence.

“We need to get a win to get back on track.”
