George Francis Reisteter, Purple Heart recipient

George Francis Reisteter, 93, of Bethlehem, died Dec. 9, 2018, at Sacred Heart Senior Living. Born in Bethlehem, he was a son of the late Josef and Suzanna (Svecz) Reisteter. He was the husband of Mary Theresa Reisteter for 66 years.

He was a World War II combat veteran in the U.S. Army. He was aboard the troopship SS Léopoldville that was torpedoed and sank in the English Channel Dec. 24, 1944. He saw combat action in France. He was a purple heart recipient.

He was a draftsman with the Bethlehem Steel Corporation. He was employed at Fuller Engineering Corporation.

He was a parishioner of Notre Dame of Bethlehem Catholic Church.

In addition to his wife, Mary, he is survived by four sons, Jim, Joel, Dan and Dave; three daughters-in-law, Barbara, Lisa and Tiffany Reisteter; and five grandchildren, Joel, Matthew, Elizabeth, Jack and Jenna Reisteter.
