LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

K-Kid wrestlers hope for bright winter

Northampton should find itself as one of the top-four wrestling teams in the area this season, but can the K-Kids work their way toward a team spot in Hershey.

With the chase for District 11’s top two spots for Hershey going to Bethlehem Catholic and Nazareth as of late, Northampton could be in position to battle the likes of Liberty and Nazareth for a state bid.

The Kids welcome back Julian Chlebove (132) for his senior season, a two-time 3A state champion, after sitting out last year for personal reasons. His spot in the lineup automatically gives the Kids one of the best wrestlers in the country back in their lineup. Northampton will also feature Sr. Devon Britton (138, District 4th; regional runner-up; state 3rd); Sr. Sam Hanley (126, District 3rd; regional 5th); Sr. Michael Kistler (160, District 3rd; regional 4th); So. Jagger Condomitti (District and regional 3rd); Sr. Hunter Werkheiser; Sr. Eddie Confer; Sr. Erik Schreck; Sr. Jayden Bortz (195, District 3rd).

Newcomers to the fold should include Alex Hanley and Jake Flood (170, JV District Champ last season.

“This has been a great group of guys to be around,” said head coach Seth Lisa, as he enters his eighth season with the program. “The majority of our guys have varsity experience and we are hoping that will turn into good senior leadership. Hopefully, we can stay happy and healthy and enjoy the challenges that are coming.”

The Kids opened up their season Wednesday against Pleasant Valley and will gauge their early season mettle against Nazareth at home Thursday night.

“Our team goal is always to get to Hershey as a team and individually,” Lisa said. “As long as every individual improves, our dual team will improve. These guys put in a lot of work in the offseason and it will be fun to watch the hard work pay off.”
