STUDENT OF THE WEEK
Q. Who is in your family?
A. My mother is Julie Kibelbek, my father is Matt Junker, my brother is Eric Junker and our dog is Maisy.
Q. What do you most enjoy about being a senior?
A. I was able to choose a lot of classes that I’m genuinely curious about, and follow up on subjects that I’m interested in. Because of this, I feel more comfortable in engaging in class discussion. I also feel very relaxed about completing projects and homework, which is both good and bad.
Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?
A. My current favorite subject is advanced placement psychology because I’m finding the material to be really interesting and thought provoking; it ties into a lot of areas that intrigue me.
Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?
A. I’ve received academic excellence awards every year at the underclassmen awards, as well as an Excellence in Geometry award my sophomore year, Principal’s Honor Roll and my induction into National Honor Society.
Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities?
A. I’m involved in marching band, flute ensemble, wind ensemble and Interact Club in school. I also volunteer at the Emmaus Public Library when I’m able to, tutor the kids of a refugee family in English, take flute and bassoon lessons and hold a job at Rite Aid.
Q. What is your next goal after high school?
A. I haven’t finalized my college choice yet, but I plan to explore various areas of interest, like biology and writing and take opportunities to travel and do research.
Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?
A. My biggest challenge has been overcoming my shy tendencies. I can be pretty hesitant to talk to people, but slowly my comfort zone is expanding
Q. For what would you like to be remembered?
A. I would like to be remembered for being kind. I think this is such a crucial quality to embody and it’s a trait that should really be valued.
Q. Whom do you admire? Why?
A. I admire my mom, because in college she chose to pursue science over other areas that came a lot more easily and naturally to her. Now that I’m going into college, this is something I’m thinking a lot about, as my interests and plans parallel hers.
Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?
A. If you’re having trouble managing your time, the worst habit you can fall into is procrastinating. I’m a very distracted person, so I’ve had to learn to budget my time and even drop activities so I can focus on academics.
