Jay Cimerol and his son Tyler are in the final stages to reopening Catty Corner, 301 Mulberry St., Catasauqua.

“The health inspector is coming out on Monday, and we anticipate a soft opening with invited guests after Thanksgiving. The soft opening will give the new staff time to iron out any problems,” Jay Cimerol said. “We wanted to open in time for Thanksgiving, but we just aren’t ready.”

An official grand opening for the establishment, to be renamed Catty Corner Neighborhood Pub & Pie, is planned for late December or early January 2019.

The popular spot closed about a year ago. The changes are numerous, with the father-and-son duo putting $300,000 into renovations.

“We kept some of the old items, but we went with an industrial theme,” said Tyler Cimerol, who will manage the day-to-day operations.

A big change is the pizza counter. There is a full line of pizza ovens.

“We want to make pizza from scratch and eventually add a delivery service. But, we will serve the whole menu of Stromboli and calzones, too,” Jay Cimerol said.

The beer taps will include a selection of domestic and foreign varieties, along with rotating lines of craft beers.

“We’ll keep a cooler full of bottled beers,” Tyler Cimerol said.

The owners want to emphasize happy hour.

“Our goal is to make this Catasauqua’s best happy hour. We will have special seasonal food deals and pizza available during happy hour,” Jay Cimerol said.

While Tyler Cimerol is running the day-to-day operations, Jay Cimerol will be out recruiting businesses for corporate lunch functions. He has a few potential customers already lined up.

The original emphasis of the bar was sports, and for that, Catty Corner has more televisions than the local Best Buy showroom.

“We have them in all sizes. Our biggest one is the 75-inch. It will be hard for you to come in here and not find a game you like on TV,” Jay Cimerol said.

Catty Corner is looking for local sports teams to sponsor.

Jay and Tyler Cimerol want to have the tavern open every day of the year.

“Our main hours will be 11 a.m.-2 p.m. to start, but we want to keep a full-service tavern with Friday and Saturday hours until 1 a.m. and open until 11 p.m. the other days of the week,” Jay Cimerol said.

He is looking at possibly serving the late-night weekend crowd until 2 a.m.

“We have been working closely with the borough. They are looking at our ideas. We want to add more outdoor seating, and we need to get more parking, too. We are working together to make this a top-flight business in Catasauqua,” Jay Cimerol said.

He addressed the potential problems a social bar in the midst of a residential neighborhood could have.

“I talked with all our neighbors and said if they had any problems, we would handle things,” Jay Cimerol said.
