Richard Bowman, 76, of Pen Argyl, was killed in a collision just after 5 a.m. on Route 248 at the Route 873 intersection.
Lehigh Township Police Department said a Kenworth tractor-trailer was traveling eastbound on Route 248 when a gray Dodge Grand Caravan, driven by Bowman, attempted to turn onto Route 873 from Route 248 westbound. The caravan drove into the path of the truck.
Bowman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the truck was Ryan Roberts, 32, of Duryea, Luzerne County, who was driving for Northeast Cartage LLC of Shavertown, Luzerne County.
According to a witness, the eastbound traffic on Route 248 had a green light when the crash occurred.
The police department crash reconstruction team and motor carrier inspector were called to the scene. Lehigh Township Fire Department and Fire Police also assisted at the accident. The Northampton County coroner responded to the scene for the investigation.
The investigation, including a post inspection of the tractor-trailer, is ongoing.
