The Catasauqua girls soccer team finished their season with a 1-0 loss to Moravian Academy in the District XI 1A semifinals.
The sixth-seeded Roughs were coming off a 3-2, road upset over third-seeded Tri-Valley in the opening round of the district playoffs. They had reason to believe that they could also upset the second-seeded Lions, having tied them 3-3 in their regular season contest.
The lone goal came just five and a half minutes into the contest.
A Moravian Academy shot ricocheted off the crossbar and back in front of the Catty goal, where a Lion attacker was able to put it home.
The Roughs offense struggled to generate chances of their own.
Striker Haleigh Toto was closely marked and she went off for the final 18:05 of the first half with an injury. Although Toto gamely tried to play through the injury in the second half, she appeared to be missing some of her trademarked speed and burst.
Colonial League all-star first team goalkeeper Madison Hicks kept the Roughs within striking distance, but Catty was unable to put the ball in the back of the net for an equalizer.
Head coach Chris Hain summed up his thoughts on the season when he addressed his team after the game.
“I’m very, very proud of this group,” he said. “I loved the effort all year. You guys have nothing to hang your heads about. I know this isn’t the way the seniors wanted to go out, but we fought and fought against a really good team. I’m very happy to be part of this group.”
