Cross country teams wrap up regular season
Bethlehem Catholic, Freedom, and Liberty’s cross country teams wrapped up their regular season with a meet last Tuesday at Easton High School.
Liberty’s boys scored victories over Freedom, 17-40, Becahi, 15-50, and Northampton, 23-32, but lost to Easton, 33-23 and Nazareth, 31-26. Liberty’s girls scored victories over Freedom, 20-35, Becahi, 18-42, and Nazareth, 23-32, but lost to Easton, 34-23, and Northampton, 31-24.
Freedom’s boys defeated Becahi, 15-46, but lost to Easton, 47-15, Nazareth, 47-15, and Northampton, 42-19. Freedom’s girls defeated Becahi, 19-40, but lost to Easton, 43-19, Northampton, 31-24, and Nazareth, 32-23.
Becahi struggled in team results, where the boys lost to Easton, 50-15, Nazareth, 50-15, and Northampton, 50-15, and the girls lost to Easton, 47-16, Nazareth, 42-19, and Northampton, 40-17.
Liberty senior Darlyn Fermin took first place by a comfortable 11 seconds. His time was 16:20. Teammates Cole Frank placed fourth in 16:49 and Ryan Wycherley placed 13th in 17:40.
Freedom senior Nick Bauer came in 15th with a time of 17:58, Liberty’s Paul Jensen was 18th in 18:04, Casey Frank was 23rd in 18:17, and Freedom’s Dylan Stahl placed 24th in 18:19. Josh Noel, also from Freedom, placed 29th in 18:39.
Freedom sophomore Lauren Charboneau took second place in the girls’ race with a time of 19:43.
Liberty’s Grace Haas finished in eighth place with a time of 21:09, followed by Greta Stuckey who was ninth in 21:14.
Becahi’s Marcella Banuelos placed 12th in 21:23, Liberty’s Belle Weikert was 13th in 21:25, and Hurricane teammate Emily Jobes was 14th in 21:28.
Also from Liberty, Kate Murphy placed 23rd in 22:08 and Freedom’s Mary Sweeney placed 24th, also in 22:08. Fellow Patriot Shannon Connelly placed 25th in 22:26, followed by sister, Cailin, whose time was 22:34, and Camrey Yeager who placed 28th in 22:37.
East Penn Cross Country Championships are scheduled for Oct. 16, past Press deadlines, and District XI Cross Country Championships are scheduled for Oct. 24. Both meets will be held at Bethlehem Municipal Golf Course on Illick’s Mill Rd.
