Boys soccer looks to end on high note Girls soccer has up, down week
For the Catasauqua boys’ soccer team, it has been a slow, maturing process.
The Roughies began the week with an overall 2-11 record.
They began the season on a high note with an impressive 6-1 victory over Northern Lehigh, but they haven’t been able to maintain any consistency.
“We have had a rough go of it expect for a few fantastic moments,” said head coach Josh Inman. “When we beat Norther Lehigh to start the season, it definitely was a lift. But then we went through a bunch of tough games where we were not playing up to the potential as a team that I believe we could have.”
Inman cited the team’s 2-1 win over Salisbury Sept. 20 as another highlight. Since then, however, the Roughies have endured three shutouts.
“We had the opening two goals against Salisbury and then held them off for the win,” said Inman. “That was huge for our boys and they definitely deserved to win that game. We have since had a couple of tough games.
“The Tamaqua game we could have kept closer (an 8-0 loss), but a few easy goal let us down. The frustration came to a head against Notre Dame (Green Pond). We did not play well and it was very upsetting to see.”
Damian DiPaolo, Westley Brown, and Devon Troxell have accounted for all of the Roughies’ scoring. DiPaolo lead the team with seven, followed by Brown with four and Troxell with 3. Catty has allowed 62 goals.
The Roughies had their Tuesday contest with Northern Lehigh postponed due to the weather. They played Notre Dame of East Stroudsburg Wednesday and Palmerton Friday.
They will close out the regular season the following week with games against Northwestern and Salem Christian next week.
“We just need to keep working,” added Inman. “Damian
(DiPaolo) has done a nice job for us all season.
“We just have to work to be consistent.”
Tuesday’s boys soccer game with Catasauqua at Northern Lehigh was postponed because of weather.
