LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Walking through Egypt’s history

Whitehall Historical Preservation Society was founded in 1984. Its goal was, and still is, to preserve the buildings and pieces of land that are critical parts of Whitehall’s rich history.

People from all over were invited to meet 10 a.m. Aug. 25 at Egypt Community Church, 4129 S. Church St., before embarking on a two-and-a-half-hour walking tour of the village.

Karen Gensey led those gathered on a full 1.3-mile tour of historic areas.

These tours, along with other events hosted by Whitehall Historical Preservation Society, encourage community members to support their town while learning about what makes it great. This free tour instilled a great deal of knowledge about many of the homes in the area and their significance back in the day.

Buildings such as the old Egypt Bakery and an 1830 church house were explained in detail.

Whitehall Historical Preservation Society plans to eventually do a cemetery tour at a later date, to commemorate individuals who have made Whitehall what it is today.

This home has been designated as historic, as explained during the Aug. 25 walking tour of Egypt, which was hosted by Whitehall Historical Preservation Society.
