When Salisbury kicks off Week 6 against Catasauqua, fans will get a look at a rare sight when the two teams kick off on Saturday afternoon at the Falcons’ home field. Yes, a Saturday afternoon game for Salisbury on its turf.

The Falcons will look to snap its two-game losing streak in which opponents have outscored them 96-48. A win would get Salisbury back into the win column for the first time since its win on September 8 against Wilson, its only victory of 2018 thus far.

“They have a pretty good perspective,” Cerco said. “They know that game [against Notre Dame-Green Pond] is over and are ready to have a good week. That seems to be the vibe around the locker room. Like, ‘Hey, let’s get this done.’”

Salisbury welcomes a Catasauqua (1-4) team that won its first game of the season last week in overtime against Wilson.

Leading the offense is quarterback Andrew Martinez, who had his best game of the season last week. He threw for three touchdowns and 121 yards against the Warriors in that win. For the season he’s completed 19-of-51 passes for four touchdowns and three interceptions.

“Their big thing is play action and sprint out,” Cerco said. “The quarterback can throw the ball fairly well and he moves well, so that sometimes will open up receivers…While it is primarily a run-based scheme, they will pick their times when they do go play-action, and people can pop open well.”

Catasauqua’s offense is built on the triple option attack, however. Martinez is the signal caller, but running backs Wilquon Clemons and Riley Reinhard are integral parts to it as well.

Clemons is the Rough Riders’ leading rusher on the season, running 36 times for 246 yards and four touchdowns out of the flex bone formation. Reinhard has carried the rock 37 times for 135 yards and a touchdown, while Martinez’s 166 rushing yards and two touchdowns makes Catasauqua’s run game tough to predict.

Clemons’ best game of the season came last week as well as he ran for 91 yards and two touchdowns on just nine carries.

“They’ve got some good athletes,” Cerco said. “It’s something that no one sees a whole lot of. It’s all based on reads. Defensively we have to be really disciplined and make sure we are in the right spots so we are able to account for everyone in that scheme. We spent a lot of time watching that and how to defend that.”

On the outside, wide receiver Adam Reinhart is Martinez’s favorite target when the Rough Riders decide to throw. He has caught 12 of Martinez’s 19 completions for 145 yards and a touchdown. Jacob Smith has hauled in three catches for 87 yards and two touchdowns.

“Do we have an opportunity to move the ball? Absolutely. What we’ve done the past couple of weeks against some really good football teams, we showed we can make some things happen when we get kids in the right position,” Cerco said.

Game time is set for 1:30 p.m. at Salisbury High School.
